KCC students, grab your friends and sign up for the first “Honolulu Ekiden & Music Festival 2013” on May 12. This festival is a 26-mile team, relay-style marathon that will start at Kapi’olani Park and will feature six segments. Fees will be waived for student teams. If you want to participate, visit the website, http://hnlekiden.com/ to download, print and email the form back to info@ekiden.com. Student teams can also submit the form by faxing it. The deadline to register is May 11.

Each team member will complete one or more of the segments and pass along the sash to next racer. Prizes will be awarded by categories: individual, team, corporate team, student team.

If you intend to participate, plan to attend the Honolulu Race Expo on May 11 and teams can pick up information and race packet.

Teams will be able to experience O’ahu and it’s scenic but challenging terrain. Racers will  be able to jam to music by various artists during Sunset on the Beach at Waikīkī.

The Ekiden is popular and held all over Japan, and by introducing this to Hawai’i, this marathon aims to promote tourism, encourage cultural understanding between Hawai’i and Japan residents and give a economic boost for the state, according to Honolulu Ekiden website.
