Honolulu District Science and Engineering Fair

On Feb. 8  KapCC played host to the Honolulu District Science & Engineering Fair. All levels of schooling including elementary, middle and high schools were represented. Some schools that competed included: Kaimuki Middle School, Pauoa Elementary School and Kaiser High School. Students set their projects up in various buildings around the campus. The middle school students used the Ohia Cafeteria, the elementary school students used the Ohelo Building and the high school students used the Manele Building.

Steve Uyehara, Sunrise on KGMB9 anchor, spoke in the opening moments of the fair, talking about his back story and how he, “graduated with a 2.69 GPA from high school.”

He encouraged the students to strive for learning and said that each of them had potential. There was an array of projects from, ‘Solar Speed Racers,’ to, ‘The Occurrences of Melanoma in Hawaiian Farmed Chinese Catfish.’ In the end, judging took an hour longer than expected because of how well the projects turned out.
