KCC Professor Lina Doo passes away at 62

Professor Lina Jeong Doo passed away July 12 at 3:53 p.m. at Queens Hospital at the age of 62.  Her life had been cut short due to cancer. Doo had been an associate professor of music at Kapi‘olani Community College since 1988. She taught classes such as music in world cultures, voice classes 1 through 3, college chorus and musical theatre. She was also responsible for KCC’s musical theatre productions. Doo was very active in the local theatre community, starring in and musically directing numerous productions.

Doo was born March 18, 1951 in Vallejo, Calif. She graduated from Blackford High School in San Jose, Calif. She went on to earn a bachelor’s of arts in biological sciences at San Jose State University, a bachelor’s of music in vocal performance at the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa, and a master’s of music in vocal performance at New England Conservatory in Boston.

The memorial service for Lina Doo will held on Saturday, July 27 at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, located on 720 N. King St. The visitation will take place at 9 a.m., followed by a music tribute at 9:45 a.m. and then the service at 11 a.m.  There will be an informal reception in the church hall following the service. Aloha attire is appropriate.
