This years winner of the Merrie Monarch was announced Saturday night.
Hālau i Ka Wēkiu, is the overall winner swiping up the three men’s divisions. Halau i ka Wekiu is from Pauoa Valley, and the kumu hula are Karl Vito Baker, and Michale Casupang.
This is the Halau’s first overall title in the festival, according to HawaiiNewsNow.com. The halau that took top honors in the wahine division was, Halau i Ke A’ali’i Ku Makani.
Next year the islands will celebrate 50 years of the Merrie Monarch.
