Are we addicted to smartphones?

Organizing apps into folders keeps you from having to scroll through pages of apps just to find the one you're looking for.

It’s funny at how much technology has grown. Remember the iPhone 3, and how cool it was when it came out?

Now, there’s already talk about a possible summer release of the iOS 7 software and an iPhone 5s. But Apple hasn’t announced anything yet, according to gottabemobile.com.

But with all of these constant software and program updates, smart phones and tablets, anything with a screen has infiltrated our daily lives. From the ripe young age of – gosh – 2 years old, to those 70 and older, people have interacted with some sort of device with an advanced screen, whether it be an iPhone, Galaxy S4 or an iPad mini. Who talks about the iPod anymore? Or an iPod shuffle? If it’s got a screen and Facebook, it’s being marketed.

The U.S. is no longer at the top spot for the most smartphone users, though. Who bumped us off? China, an article on the Business Insider website reported. China has 1.3 billion people, which could make the U.S. and its 310 million look pitiful.

This article I read on Business Insider proved a good point: people can’t live without their smartphones. Here’s where it gets interesting: a survey found that in Spain, 11 percent of people can’t order dinner without an app, and 93 percent can’t get through their day without using an app.

And, get this. In Russia, prison inmates have an app that allows their loved ones to send them messages and photos, according to Business Insider. One more odd fact? Canada has a section in the Apple app store called “Great Canadian Apps.”

The world loves smartphones. I’ve been seeing kids younger and younger, some 5 years old with ringing cell phones. Like, who’s calling a five year old?

What did our parents do without a phone?

What happened to saying, “Meet me outside the theater at six”?

Even with all this distraction and constant need to be looking at Facebook or texting while at a family dinner, these phones have brought us some ease. Now, by just using your trusty fingers, you can sign your name to a document and send it. If you’re travelling in another country, there are currency converter apps. There are even apps to train your brain like  “N-back.”

Whether you have a smartphone or not, they’re around and most likely not going to go away anytime soon.

Now, can you live without your smartphone?
