Electric Slide

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa looks to expand its sustainability initiative with the introduction of charging units for electric vehicles.

The “Charge Spots” are now available in the ground floor of the Lower Campus Parking Structure, as well as the parking facility near the Athletics Complex.

Charging is limited to four hours per day per vehicle, and require the user to obtain a membership card from betterplace.com/hawaii. Membership is free through the end of the year, and gives members access to over 100 charge spots throughout the state.

The implementation of these charge spots gives drivers even more incentive to drive electric, as they are already allowed to park for free on campus. There are six reserved stalls next to the stations, which only allow Electric Vehicles to park.

Said Raymond Shito, manager of UH Mānoaʻs Parking and Transportation Services, “”Electric vehicle owners – university affiliates (students and employees), as well as members of the public who are visiting our campus or attending sporting events in our Athletics Complex – will now be able to enjoy not only free parking in our Lower Campus Parking Structure but free charging for the year.”
