Facebook’s Timeline becomes mandatory

All Facebook users should be aware that what was once a voluntary switch, is now mandatory. Facebook’s feature, Timeline, is a scrapbook of your life on Facebook. Once it’s activated, it will replace the current profile.

Even those users who haven’t logged on in a while will have their Facebook accounts automatically converted as well, according to an article posted by the Star Advertiser.

Timeline makes access to posts from the past easier and quicker to find. For example, that embarrassing photo you took at a party last year will be easier to find. Although Timeline doesn’t expose anything that wasn’t shown in the past, it only gives easier and faster access to material posted, reported the Star Advertiser.

Beginning Tuesday, Facebook is telling users they have seven days to get their profile cleaned up before Timeline is activated.

Here are some tips posted by the Star Advertiser on how to hide and clean up your profile.

1. Change privacy settings on individual items to control who can see what. Switch the privacy on embarrassing photos, or just delete them.

2. Dates on posts can be changed. Change the dates to posts so that they show up with more recent photos, if you please.

3. You can star major events in your life to make them more prominent, or hide posts.

4. Aside from the traditional profile photo, Facebook will have a cover photo, or something that is across the top. Keep in mind the larger dimensions that photo will have.

5. Add things before you joined Facebook, like childhood photos.

6. Overwhelmed with tons of photos? The Star Advertiser suggests to start with the older posts.

7. The Activity Log will show you posts at a glance and you can make changes one by one.

Again, starting Tuesday, users will have a week to clean up their profiles before the switch becomes automatic.
