Hawai’i farms awarded money from USDA

This month, USDA awarded $285,930 to five Hawai’i farms to help promote their products.

Receiving almost half of the funds, $140,000 was awarded to Naked Cow Dairy to help promote their future cheese production. Though the money was not meant to purchase equipment, Naked Cow Dairy is still looking to raise money for cheese vat and pasteurizer. Money is raised through the IndieGoGo campaign, according to HonoluluMagazine.com.

The Hawai’i Cattle Producers Cooperative Association (HCPCA) was awarded $58,180 to help market Hawaiian Red Veal, reported an article by Honolulu Magazine. HCPCA represents cattle farmers in the islands.

On Maui, Noni Niotech International received $48,000 to market it’s noni juice, spa products and capsules.

Kalapana Organics was awarded $12,000 for it’s organic farm, and Mauna Kea Tea, which grows organic oolong and green tea received $27,750.
