A bill currently passed now allows officers to confiscate cigarettes from minors, to make it harder for minors to smoke cigarettes, according to HawaiiNewsNow.com.
It allows the officers to take tobacco products away from those under the age of 18, they also will not be able to use tobacco in any forms including; cigarettes, chewing tobacco, snuff.
A previous version of the bill would penalize minors for smoking, but senators thought it would be important to focus closer on enforcement efforts on the tobacco industry for making the cigarettes appealing to youngsters.
The article stated that the bill does not punish the youth for the posession of tobacco, but just allows it to be taken away. However, those that are under 18 and caught purchasing tobacco can be fined from $10 to $50.
