Starbucks adds alcohol to its menu

Starbucks customers will soon have the option of getting a different kind of kick to start their day.

The coffee chain is aiming to expand its menu by offering beer and wine in select stores, according to Reuters.

About 12 stores in Atlanta and Southern California will offer the alcoholic beverages after 2 p.m. on weekdays and after noon on weekends, the company told Reuters. Its target vibe, said the Huffington Post, is relaxation.

The Huffington Post said Starbucks began to test its alcohol menu in 2010 at Seattle, where the company originated. Currently, five Seattle locations and one in Portland, Ore., offers beers for $5 and wines $7 to $9 by the glass. The beer options include Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and the wine menu includes Pinot Noir from Oregon, a Prosecco from Italy and Malbec from Argentina.

Starbucks plans to open 800 more stores around the world, half of them in the Americas.
