‘The Hunger Games’ wins

“The Hunger Games” movie was released Friday, March 23. Of course the first screening at midnight. Though  I didn’t make it to the midnight screening, I made it to a Friday night showing.

For those of you who have read the books, it’s so much easier to follow along in the movie, finally having that story in your head brought to life. Having read the book, I’d have to say that the movie stuck pretty darn close to the book story line itself. A few things here and there that were altered or cut out, but it didn’t make too much of a difference in m opinion.

But, for those who have not read “The Hunger Games” or the following books in the trilogy, it may be hard to catch those little tiny details that help to bring the story together. If you do want to see the movie, plan on seeing it with someone who’s familiar with the books, that way throughout the movie you can bug them with questions.

The one thing I noticed was that they showed much more of the game room than I had imagined, and from what was described in the book. They did a great job also of putting a image in my head of the vicious dogs at the end of the movie. Those the cornucopia was so much for sophisticated than I thought, it was a metal like structure and didn’t expect that at all.

The casting for the movie I think was done well, the main female character, Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence did a fantastic job of showing a strong, skilled and determined female character. Her acting was precise and I felt like she embodied Katniss throughout the movie. After the movie I felt like I had to go get a bow and some arrows and learn how to shoot and survive in the forest.

Josh Hutcherson, who played Peeta Mellark left me wondering the whole movie what else he had acted in. Later I realized it was the movie “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” After figuring that out , I’m guessing I wasn’t expecting him to be playing that part in the movie. As I kept watching I thought that it had worked out pretty well. He did a great job portraying Peeta also, but I  felt like the acting could have been stronger, especially nearing the end of the movie when he was begging Katniss not to go to the feast at the cornucopia.

Anyhow, over all the movie definitely  called for a sequel and I do hope one will be coming out. I’m looking forward to again reserving seats, getting a movie snack and heading down to the theater to watch the movie. The DVD hopefully will come with some neat extra features and some cool behind the scenes clips.

If you haven’t read the book or have seen the movie, pick it up to read and then run on over to the theater. But if you’re more of a person who prefers the book and dislikes movie interpretations, it’s OK, I don’t think this movie will disappoint you.
