Top 10: Common Halloween costumes

Each year there are certain costumes you can expect to be the most common. Most of the time these common costume ideas come from movies that came out during the year, TV shows and whatever is cool at the moment. Here’s my list of 2013’s most common costumes and a few that are seen almost every year.

10. Batman & Robin (maybe Bane again)

“The Dark Knight Rises” did come out last year and there were quite a few Banes walking the streets of Waikīkī, but Batman and Robin costumes are classic. I’ve seen at least two Batmen each year I’ve dressed up. They  have Robin costumes for women too, so maybe it could be a couples costume. I saw a guy who dressed up as Bane last year and he was huge like Bane.  Coincidence?

9. Captain Kirk in Star Trek

This movie was great. It’s about time another one came out. But, I feel like we’ll be seeing a few Captain Kirks.  After all, there are costumes widely available online, and it’s easy. Pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

8. Gladiator

Always. Almost every year I see at least two people dressed up as gladiators, whether it’s a male or female gladiator. What’s funny is those lace up sandals for men and women have become popular in the fashion world. High hair for the women and a lace up sandals  and plastic shields for the men.

7. Hansel and Gretel

This movie was superb. Action packed, not the same actors that are always on screen on on TV. Plus the weapons and costumes in this move were cool. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw some couples dressed up as the famous Hansel and Gretel.

6. Superman

“Man of Steel” sold me on Superman as a super hero. Definitely one of the better movies. Not only are there always going to be Superman costumes at parties, trick-or-treating or walking down the street, this is a classic iconic costume idea. It’ll always be an option.

5. TED

This loud mouthed but sometimes kind hearted teddy bear, I’m sure will be seen this Hallow’s Eve.  The Ted costume, I don’t know if I’d call it a costume, is too easy. It’s a beanie with eyes and ears and gloves that look like paws. This might be the way to go if you’re in a pinch to find something to wear.

4. Jay Gatsby & Daisy Buchanan

I loved this movie. There was some controversy when this movie came out about how it plays up and makes the 20’s seem glamourous and glitzy despite the actual heavy problems of that era. But I would love to dress up as Daisy Buchanan and have my boyfriend dress up as Gatsby, but online and at the costumes stores I saw way too many flapper dresses and fake cigarette holders.

3. Ironman

The best Ironman costume I’ve seen was last year in Waikīkī. It was insanely realistic and I felt like he was going to take flight at any moment and wow the crowds. It makes the fabric Ironman costumes look even more fake. Come to find out the guy who made the costume was in several of my classes. This one will be around for another year or two.

2. Vampire and Zombies

I honestly couldn’t decide which one to put as number two. I feel like this year zombies have take over every TV show and movie. But then again, our vampire friends have been out to play. You make the call on this one. Costumes range from sexy to  morbidly gruesome zombies and vampires, even costumes for your pets! “World War Z,” “Warm Bodies,” “Twilight,” “True Blood,” “Vampire Diaries,” me oh my, it never ends.

1. Minions

Imagine seeing a group of minions walking down the street. What would you do? There’s going to be countless minions, one-eyed and two-eyed minions all over! I’m hoping I might see Gru leading the way also, maybe even Agnes, Edith and Margo too?
