Vanilla shortage

This summer the classic vanilla flavor for ice cream is running short — a shortage in the global vanilla supply, gasp.

Poor vanilla crops in Mexico and India, which are two major vanilla producers have led to the crisis, according to FoxNews.com.

Don’t say goodbye to vanilla just yet.

Although, Madagascar, another wholesale producer has been stockpiling supplies, and taking advantage of the situation. In the last two months, vanilla wholesale prices have risen at least 20 percent, FoxNews.com reported.

Even though the price per kilogram has only gone up $5, making it $30 instead of $25, some are worried of a more serious shortage, according to FoxNews.com.  The increase in vanilla prices also affect soft drinks, cosmetics, baked goods and more.
